Northwestern Mutual Capital invests junior capital in leveraged buyouts alongside leading private equity firms in the United States, Europe and Asia. We are experienced equity and mezzanine investors with a track record of success spanning over 30 years. Over the past five years, we averaged over $1.4 billion in mezzanine, preferred and common equity securities alongside more than 40 equity sponsors, and have invested over $5.1 billion since 2005. As of December 31, 2009, Northwestern Mutual's mezzanine and equity co-invest portfolio had a book value of $3.9 billion (excluding our private equity fund investments).
As a committed investor in the private mezzanine and equity markets, we will seek to invest approximately $500 million annually, with a minimum investment of at least $10 million and the ability to commit up to $50 million in any single transaction. Our team of professionals is focused on providing:
- Flexible, strategic capital to support equity sponsors, with structuring flexibility (cash pay, PIK; mezzanine, preferred or common equity)
- Speed of execution, with streamlined internal processes to fund up to $50 million per deal
- Competitive, market-level returns, based on transaction-specific risk/reward profile
